Talc

Talc (Soapstone) in Pakistan

Soapstone, or steatite, is a metamorphic rock composed primarily of talc (chemical formula: Mg₃Si₄O₁₀(OH)₂). It has a soft, soapy feel and a hardness of 1–2 on the Mohs scale, making it easy to carve and process.

Key Characteristics:
Soft texture; feels smooth or slippery

Heat-resistant and retains warmth

Chemically inert – resistant to acids and chemicals

Used in both decorative and industrial applications

Major Producing Regions in Pakistan

Pakistan has large reserves of high-quality talc/soapstone. Major mining areas include:

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa:

Sherwan, located in Abbottabad, is the primary source for our mining operations. We utilize the high-quality talc extracted from this region in our products

Swat (Shangla, Dargai), Jamrud, and Kurram Agency Parachinar)

Baluchistan:

Zhob Region

Gilgit–Baltistan & Azad Kashmir:

Nauseri, Chalt, and surrounding areas

All Afghan talc available in upto 99% brightness.

Note: Sherwan and Swat are known for premium quality, high-brightness soapstone (brightness 85–92%).

Quality Grades

Soapstone and talc lumps are usually classified into grades:

Grade A: High purity (85–96% talc), bright white color

Grade B: Medium purity (65–75%), slightly off-white or grey

Other grades: Vary by color and brightness

Colors range from white, gray, green, to pink and bluish hues—depending on trace minerals like Fe, Ni, Cr, Cu.
